New fitness Test for SL Cricketers : 2 KM run in 8 minutes & 35 seconds

A new fitness protocol has been introduced for Sri Lankan cricketers to be eligible for the upcoming Caribbean tour.

According to the Island, as part of their intense training program, all 35 players shortlisted for the tour will have to do a two-kilometer run in eight minutes and 35 seconds.

A source with knowledge of the players fitness level said some senior players, including former captains are expected to fail the test recommended by new trainer Grant Luden, which is common in many cricket circles at present.

He said there is a possibility for several players to be dropped from the tour due to a lack of fitness.

The new training is to be conducted at the Sugathadasa Stadium on Friday (05).

Sri Lanka is expected to introduce a new fitness policy ahead of the Caribbean tour, where if a player fails the fitness test, he has 40 days to pass for a second time. If he fails the second test then he will be unavailable for selections.
