Colombo records the highest number of cases per day ever with 480

The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) stated that the risk of coronavirus has increased yet again in the Western Province.

The highest number of coronavirus infections detected in a single day reported in the Colombo district was identified yesterday with 480 cases.

Two hundred and thirty two cases were identified in the Colombo Municipal Council area itself, while 29 cases each were reported from Wellampitiya and Mount Lavinia.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Editor of the Government Medical Officers' Association, said that the number of beds reserved for coronavirus infected patients in hospitals is currently reaching a maximum.

Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Editor of the Government Medical Officers' Association, further stated that in the current situation, strategic measures should be taken including imposing restrictions on ceremonies.

Also, out of the 843 corona infections reported in the country yesterday, 86 have been identified from the Gampaha district, 72 from the Kalutara district and 40 from the Galle district.

Kandy District Parliamentarian Wasantha Yapa Bandara of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has been infected with the coronavirus.

This was confirmed to the Hirunews team when inquired.

Earlier Ministers Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, State Ministers Dayasiri Jayasekara, Piyal Nishantha and MP Rauf Hakeem were also diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Among them State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara and Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara recovered and returned home.
