Special Party Leaders' meeting to discuss Parliament's future
The Parliamentary staff will be subjected to PCR tests today (13) and tomorrow. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena added that Members of Parliament can also refer to the test if they wish.
State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara tested positive for the virus first, followed by Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauff Hakeem and Water Supply Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara who were diagnosed with COVID-19.
Currently, 15 Parliamentary staff members were identified as associates of Minister Nanayakkara.
Meanwhile, Political Affairs Coordinating Secretary of the Prime Minister, Kumarasiri Hettige was also diagnosed with the virus, with another 31 MPs being directed to self-quarantine.
A special meeting of party leaders has been convened at 02:00 p.m. today to discuss the future of Parliament in the light of the current situation.
