Cremation or burial of COVID bodies: Decision following submission of report by Prof. Jennifer Perera
The Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi stated that the final decision regarding the last rites of COVID bodies will be made based on the recommendations made by Prof. Jennifer Perera after submitting the report to a committee headed by Judicial Medical Officer Channa Perera.
Meanwhile, former President Maithripala Sirisena in an interview with the Hindu newspaper said that permission should be given to bury the bodies of Muslims who die of the COVID infection while respecting Islamic religious rights.
However, the Sinhale Api National Organization yesterday (04) made an allegation regarding the statement issued by the Sri Lanka Medical Association stating that permission could be granted for the burial of COVID infected bodies based on the scientific information available.
Commenting on this, Organization Chairperson Ven. Jamburewela Chandraratana Thera said that the Medical Association of Sri Lanka has issued the relevant statement due to political reasons.
