Steps to increase local B Onion production to 45% in two years

The Ministry of Agriculture states that 22 percent of the country's demand for big onions is produced locally and it costs between 12 and 15 billion rupees annually to import the rest.

Accordingly, the Ministry stated that steps have been taken to increase the local big onion production to 35 percent this year and to 45 percent next year.

The monthly progress review meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and the institutions belonging to the state ministries under it was held yesterday under the patronage of the Minister in charge of the subject Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
