COVID recoveries exceed 25,000

With the identification of 616 cases yesterday (16), the total number of patients identified in Sri Lanka increased to 34,737.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva stated that among the patients identified 51 were reported from Prisons. The number of patients reported from the Minuwangoda Brandix factory, Peliyagoda fish market and Prison coronavirus clusters have increased to 31,070.

While 8,925 patients are still receiving treatment, the total number of recoveries exceeded 25,000 with a report of 785 cases.

The death toll in the country increased to 157, with the three deaths that were reported yesterday (16).

The first victim was a 50-year-old woman from Kolonnawa who passed away at the Homagama Base Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be kidney failure and COVID pneumonia.

A 78-year-old male from Colombo 09 had also passed away at the National Infectious Diseases HOspital, while the cause of death was identified to be blood poisoning, multiple organ failure and COVID pneumonia.

The third victim was a 43-year-old woman from Bandaragama who died at the Homagama Base Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be traumatic blood poisoning with multiple organ failure and COVID pneumonia.
