Justice Preethi Padman Surasena Approved as Next Chief Justice
The Constitutional Council has unanimously approved the nomination of Justice Preethi Padman Surasena for the position of Chief Justice.
His name was submitted to the Council by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Justice Surasena, one of the most senior judges on the Supreme Court bench, has previously served as a member of the Judicial Service Commission.
The current Chief Justice, Justice Murdhu Fernando, is scheduled to retire on the 27th of July.
