Angelo Mathews wants LPL format changed

The Lanka Premier League team Colombo Kings captain Angelo Mathews has proposed to change the method the knockout phase of the LPL is played in the future.

Former SL Cricket captain suggested that it should be how it is played in the IPL, where the top two teams in the league stage get an advantage. Mathews suggests to adopt the ‘Qualifier’ and ‘Eliminator’ system implemented in the Indian Premier League where the top two teams of the league get another opportunity, instead of the conventional semifinal system currently followed in the LPL.

Mathews also commented on the removal of Herschelle Gibbs as the coach of the Colombo Kings. “He (Gibbs) has said he is quitting due to a person reason. The CK franchise will issue an official statement regarding this” Mathew further said.

The 1st semifinal of the inaugural Lanka Premier League will be played tonight between the leaders of the league, Colombo Kings and the 4th placed Galle Gladiators captained by Bhanuka Rajapaksa.
