COVID patients from Colombo District exceed 10,000 in two months

Since 04 October, a total number of 10,140 COVID cases were reported from the Colombo District, including the 400 patients which were reported yesterday (02). Among them were, 108 patients reported from Borella and 63 patients reported from Aluthkade.

From the Gampaha District, 188 patients were reported yesterday (02). The highest number of patients from the Gampaha District, which is 48 was reported from Kadawatha.

Another 106 patients were reported from the Kalutara District, which included 98 patients from Atalugama.

Of the total 878 COVID infections identified yesterday, 52 were in the Ratnapura District, 29 in the Puttalam District and 27 in the Kandy District.

The total number of COVID patients stands at 25,410, while the number of recoveries stands at 18,304, with 6,982 patients still receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana stated that legal action will be taken against the person who obstructed the duties of public health inspectors in Atalugama, Bandaragama who arrived to transport a COVID patient to a treatment centre.

Another 389 persons who were stranded overseas due to the spread of COVID-19 had arrived in the country yesterday (02) night and today (03) morning. The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 stated that the persons have arrived from China, Qatar, Jordan and Oman.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris stated that the GCE Ordinary Level Examination which was postponed due to the coronavirus expansion is expected to be held March 2021.
