PHIs warn about Covid-19 risk in Colombo municipality area
Public health inspectors say the Covid-19 risk in the Colombo municipality area is at an uncontrollable level.
Most-affected by the virus, the area continues to report more cases as over 1,000 PCR tests were conducted yesterday (28) to identify new patients.
Several areas in Colombo, including eight housing complexes, remain isolated.
President of the PHIs association Upul Rohana also wants immediate travel restrictions imposed on areas that report infected persons.
In Ruwanwella, health authorities have so far identified more than 1,000 contacts of a Covid-19 positive doctor who had treated patients at a private medical centre at Anguruwella.
With a total of 487 new cases reported yesterday, the country caseload increased to 22,988.
The clusters from the Brandix factory at Minuwangoda and the fish market at Peliyagoda account for 19,450 of them.
Two Colombo residents succumbed to the virus, taking the death toll to 109.
They are a woman, aged 96 years, from Colombo 08 and a 76-year-old man from Colombo 02.
