Recoveries from Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster over 9,400
Positive cases from Sri Lanka’s largest Covid-19 cluster, which is linked to an outbreak from the apparel factory in Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda Fish Market, has surpassed the 15,000-mark.
The new development was followed by the 437 infections found yesterday. These patients were identified as close contacts of earlier cases.
According to reports, 305 new infections were detected within Colombo District, while 58 were from Gampaha District.
In addition, a foreign seafarer and an arrival from India were also tested positive for novel coronavirus yesterday, the Department of Government Information said.
The National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) says the total cases registered by Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster so far stands at 15,324 – Minuwangoda cluster has registered 3,059 while Peliyagoda cluster confirmed 12,265.
It is reported that 9,478 patients linked to the dual cluster have made complete recoveries.
Thereby, the total number of Covid-19 infections confirmed in Sri Lanka moved up to 18,823 and 12,902 of them have been discharged from hospitals upon returning to health.
The Epidemiology Unit says 5,867 active cases are still under medical care.
