Legal action against ship in Rumassala that has been stuck for five months

The Marine Environmental Protection Authority states that legal action will be taken against a ship that has been stuck in between rocks at Rumassala if it is not removed by next April.

The ship "Sri Lanka Glory" which brought raw materials to the Galle Ruhuna Cement Factory and was anchored in the Galle Outer Harbor was swept away by strong winds on July 18 last year and was stranded on a reef near the Rumassala Peace Temple.

The Marine Pollution Prevention Authority has taken steps to remove 22 tons of oil from the ship to prevent maritime pollution.

Although there have been some difficulties in removing the ship in the recent past, the General Manager of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, Dr. Turney Pradeep Kumara pointed out that it is possible to remove the ship since the sea will not be rough until next April.
