Separate opposition seating for 8 SJB MPs who supported 20th amendment
Separate seating in the opposition is to be arranged for the eight MPs of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya who had voted in support of the 20th amendment to the constitution, reports say.
The reason is that there is no seating space available in the government side.
Following their voting for the 20th amendment, the SJB decided not to recognize them as its own and wrote to the speaker asking him to arrange seating for them in the government side.
With a two-thirds parliamentary majority, government already has around 30 of its MPs seated in the opposition side.
Sergeant-at-arms Narendra Fernando told Hiru News that seating arrangements for the eight MPs in question in accordance with their seniority would most likely be decided next week.
