Suspects linked to telephone cable thefts arrested in Ragama and Moratuwa
Three suspects wanted in connection with telephone cable thefts were arrested in separate police operations in Ragama and Moratuwa on Saturday.
Police said two suspects were arrested in Ragama along with 17.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) during a raid carried out by officers attached to the Ragama Police Station.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly cut and stolen cables from telecommunication transmission towers in the area, causing losses estimated at Rs. 922,750. The suspects, aged 27 and 34, are residents of Rattupaswala and Kadawatha.
Based on information obtained during questioning, police recovered a stock of the stolen cable segments.
In a separate operation, Moratuwa Police arrested a 51-year-old suspect from Rawathawatta who was wanted in connection with several property thefts, including the theft of telephone cables worth approximately Rs. 180,000.
Police said further investigations led to the recovery of a stolen television set and a stock of copper wire believed to have been stolen.
Further investigations are being conducted by Ragama and Moratuwa Police.
