Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath meets New Zealand counterpart

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath met with Winston Peters, New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, during his official visit to New Zealand.

In a post shared on X, Herath said he thanked Peters for the invitation extended for the official visit and for hosting him and the Sri Lankan delegation for lunch.

According to Herath, the two ministers held discussions on a range of bilateral matters, including political relations, trade, sports, governance and the Sri Lankan community living in New Zealand.

The ministers also exchanged views on current global and regional developments and their impact, the statement added.

Herath is currently in New Zealand for a series of official engagements, including the planned opening of Sri Lanka’s new High Commission in Wellington, which is expected to provide diplomatic and consular services to more than 30,000 Sri Lankans living in the country.
