IGP instructs police to prevent forcible seizure of relief goods

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has instructed all police units to take maximum measures to prevent incidents of forcible seizure of relief items being transported to disaster-affected areas, following a letter issued by the Commissioner General of Essential Services on 5 December 2025.

The letter reported several incidents in which groups had stopped vehicles en route and forcibly taken goods donated for disaster-hit communities. The Commissioner General has requested that legal action be taken against those involved.

In response, the IGP has directed all police divisions to give personal attention to the issue and ensure that such acts are prevented within their respective areas.

Police stations have also been instructed to immediately investigate any reported incident of forcible seizure of relief goods and to take strict legal action against the perpetrators.
