Possibility to play LPL overseas discussed as health authorities delay approval
With Health Authorities in Sri Lanka delaying permission to host the inaugural Lanka Premier League T20 tournament, organisers are now considering the possibility of hosting the tournament overseas.
A senior Sri Lankan Cricket official speaking to NewsWire said that a discussion was held about hosting the tournament overseas as a back up plan.
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa speaking to NewsWire said that there will be another discussion with health authorities on Wednesday before drawing a final decision about the tournament.
The Minister said that he is confident that the tournament can be played as scheduled adhering to all necessary health guidelines.
“I am confident the tournament can be played here as scheduled. We will meet the health authorities again on Wednesday” he said.
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has reportedly proposed to play the tournament only in Hambantota in a bubble linked to Mattala airport.
