Police Nab Six for Illegal Poaching in Peradeniya

Six individuals have been arrested in the Yahalathenna area of Peradeniya for engaging in animal poaching.

The arrests were made following a tip-off from local residents to the police.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered the carcass of a wild boar that had been shot and killed. 

Additionally, the suspects were found in possession of three 12-bore bullets, three empty shells, an axe, and a knife.

Further searches led to the discovery of a 12-bore firearm hidden in a nearby forested area. 

The suspects, aged between 28 and 71, include a resident of Mawathagama whose house was found to contain four 12-bore firearms, ammunition, a revolver, three handcuffs, a set of military-style uniforms, and an air pistol.
