Sri Lankan Government Declares War on Corruption

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake promised that any official found bending or breaking the law would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

He declared a zero-tolerance policy for corruption within the Government, stating that those who attempt to solicit bribes should be afraid, while those who refuse to pay bribes should feel secure.

"This Government will never, ever, tolerate
corruption among its ranks. From here on, those who attempt to receive bribes should be afraid," said the President.

The President also highlighted the newfound independence and empowerment of the judiciary and police force, ensuring that they enforce the law without fear or favor.

He acknowledged that eliminating corruption requires more than just law enforcement; it involves modernizing government functions, enhancing efficiency, and increasing transparency.

These measures aim to address the root causes of corruption, making it harder to take bribes and less attractive to pay them, he noted.
