Govt. to bolster defence, administrative mechanisms

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Chairman and Education Minister Professor G.L. Peiris yesterday said the Government will focus on strengthening defence and administrative mechanisms once the Final Report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into the Easter Sunday terror attacks is submitted. Minister Prof. Peiris said that the Government will also consider amending existing laws, if required, after the Presidential Commission report on the Easter Sunday terror attacks is forwarded.

The Minister noted that people have become skeptical over national security due to the information revealed during the Commission proceedings. “The Government is taking all measures to prevent such attacks in the country again,” he said.

Addressing a press conference at the SLPP headquarters in Battaramulla yesterday, the Minister stressed that all those who were involved in the Easter Sunday terror attacks will be brought to book regardless of their stature.

He said that those who were involved in the attacks as well as those responsible for aiding and abetting the massacre that took more than 250 lives will also be severely dealt with.

Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena and SLPP General Secretary and Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam were also present.
