Over 667,000 votes rejected in 2024 General Election

The Election Commission has confirmed that a total of 667,240 votes were rejected during the 2024 general election.  

According to Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, the election recorded the following figures:  

Eligible voters: 17,140,354  
Votes cast: 11,815,246  
Valid votes: 11,148,006  
Rejected votes: 667,240  

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), Rohana Hettiarachchi, described this election as the most peaceful in the country’s history.
