Child dies after being attacked by stray dog in Mapalagama
A 13- year-old school boy who was admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching hospital a few days after being attacked by a stray dog has died.
The dog had attacked the teenager at a bus stop while he was enroute to attend a tuition class in the Mapalagama area over a month ago.
However, the child had been admitted to the Udugama Hospital on 26th September after falling ill.
He was later transferred to the Karapitiya hospital and had died on Monday night (28) while receiving treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Gavesh Nethsara, a grade 7 student of a school in Mapalagama.
The postmortem examination of the child was done by the Galle Judicial Medical Officer, following which the funeral was held yesterday.
Director General of the Udugama Base Hospital Susantha Fernando said the child could have been saved if he was treated immediately after the attack.
Measures are being taken to submit body parts of the deceased child to the Medical Research Institute for further examination.
A 54-year old man too had died after being attacked by a stray dog in the Yatamaththa area on last Saturday (26).
