Inmate’s Death at Matara Prison Under Investigation
The Matara prison authorities have reported the death of an inmate due to fever.
Commissioner of Prisons, Gamini B. Dissanayake, confirmed that the 23-year-old man passed away while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Matara General Hospital.
The deceased had been remanded last December in connection for the possession of ICE or Crystal Meth.
He was hospitalized on the 17th and unfortunately succumbed to his illness yesterday afternoon.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine whether the cause of death was related to brain fever.
