Report on amendment of election laws to be presented to President
The final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to obtain and submit information, investigate, inquire into, and examine all existing election laws and regulations, and make necessary recommendations for the amendment of election laws is scheduled to be handed over to President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday (17).
Secretary of the Commission Madhava Devasurendra said the report consists of over 130 pages.
The term of office of the commission, appointed on the 15th of October 2023, ended on the 30th of June, 2024.
The commission chaired by former Chief Justice Priyasath Dep PC, comprises 19 members.
The commission gathered opinions from the public and civil organizations and prepared its final report after studying the electoral systems of several democratic countries.
