Sri Lanka's GDP Grows, But Key Sectors Still Struggle

According to the Department of Census and Statistics, although the growth rate of the country's gross domestic product recorded a positive value in the first quarter of this year, 11 sub-sectors in the agricultural, industrial and service sectors continue to show a negative growth rate.

However, at the end of the first quarter of the year, the agricultural sector showed a GDP growth rate of 1.1% and the service sector showed a growth rate of 2.6%.

The highest growth rate is recorded from the industrial sector, which shows a growth rate of 11.8%.

The overall GDP growth rate has increased to 5.3% and the growth rate in the first quarter of last year was recorded as negative 10.7%.
