The Met Department has issued an advisory for Sri Lanka, warning of intensifying showers and windy conditions across the island over the next few days.

This is due to the developing pre-monsoon weather patterns.

According to the advisory, cloudy skies can be expected over most parts of the country.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere of the island after 1 PM.

Heavy showers above 100mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliyaand Mannar districts.

The Department of Irrigation has opened the sluice gates of four major reservoirs – Udawalawa, Angamuwa, Rajanganaya, and Polgolla – in response to the prevailing weather conditions.

The sluice gates were opened to manage water levels and potential flooding risks.

Meanwhile, Several districts in Sri Lanka have been placed on alert for landslides due to heavy rains. Warnings have been issued for Badulla, Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, and Ratnapura districts.
