Special Security Measures for Easter Sunday Services!
The Ministry of Public Security has announced the implementation of a special security program across Christian churches during the upcoming Easter Sunday services.
With Good Friday falling on the 29th and Easter Sunday on the 31st, authorities said they are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of worshippers.
On March 27th and 28th, the Officer in Charge (OIC) for each area will meet with Parish Priests to discuss service schedules.
Close collaboration between OICs and Church Administration will tailor security programs to the unique needs of each church, said the Police Spokesperson DIG Nihal Thalduwa.
He added that detailed security plans will be communicated to the Police Headquarters for effective coordination.
Traffic Police personnel have received specific instructions to heighten vigilance during this period. Their focus will be on ensuring smooth traffic flow around churches and maintaining security.
The Police Special Task Force will be strategically deployed to designated locations as needed. Their presence will enhance security and deter any potential threats, said the Police Spokesperson.
He noted that if the existing police and STF personnel are insufficient, armed forces assistance will be sought. This collaborative effort aims to bolster security measures.
The security program will be executed in a manner that minimizes inconvenience to worshippers.
Beyond churches, additional security protocols will be in place at hotels and other public gathering places. The intelligence corps will also play a crucial role in enhancing overall security, added the Police Spokesperson.
