2 Police officers suspended in connection to Narammala shooting
Two officers attached to the Sri Lankan police have been temporarily suspended until January 23rd following the murder of a civilian in Dampalassa, Narammala, on Thursday night.
The police say that the services of a sub-inspector and a police constable have been suspended in this manner.
The sub-inspector, who was arrested for the shooting, was produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court last evening and was remanded until the 23rd of January.
It was reported that two individuals in civilian clothing attempted to stop a lorry on Thursday evening.
It was also reported that the victim, identified as Roshan Kumarathilaka, continued driving and eventually stopped near a friend's shop.
It was at this point, according to eyewitnesses, that a plainclothes sub-inspector, who had followed the lorry, allegedly discharged his firearm, resulting in Kumarathilaka's death.
Meanwhile, Acting IGP Deshbandu Tennakoon said that a team of Police Special Investigation Unit has been appointed to conduct investigations regarding the incident.
