School and public transport service providers request fare increases.

School and public transport service providers have paid attention to revising transport fares, due to the increase in value-added tax effective from the 1st of January 2024.

General Secretary of the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners' Association Anjana Priyanjith says that the minimum bus fare will have to be increased to 35 Rupees, given the VAT revision.

Secretary of the All Island Three Wheeler Drivers And Owners' Association Nishantha Kumara says that an increase of about  Rs. 30 in fuel prices is expected following the VAT revision.

He adds that while it is unfair on the customers to increase fares, discussions are underway to take necessary steps to deal with the issues that arise with the VAT increase.
