Amitha Bandara who served as the Kurunegala District Organizer for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya was arrested at the Mahawa Junction on Tuesday by officers of the Kegalle Crimes Investigations Bureau.

Sri Lanka Police said that he was arrested along with 778 grams and 260 milligrams of heroin.

In addition, police officers seized a jeep that was used to transport the drugs, a car, electric scale, check books issued by multiple banks, bank cards, and bank account books from the possession of the suspect.

The Samagi Jana Balavegaya later on Thursday (21) decided to expel Amitha Bandara from the party with immediate effect.

A statement bearing the signature of SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara noted that the party membership of Amitha Bandara was also suspended.

It added that the decisions will be put forward to the SJB Working Committee on Friday (22) for approval.
