Several roads blocked due to mounds of earth collapsing

Sri Lanka Police said several roads have been blocked due to the collapse of mounds of earth and the falling of trees with the prevailing showers.

Police said the Deniyaya - Ratnapura road was blocked due to the collapse of a mound of earth near the 86th kilometer post in Anilkanda on Thursday (07) night.
 
Vehicular movement has come to a standstill and Police are requesting people to use alternative routes.

Meanwhile, the collapse of a mound of earth in Diyagala, Ginigathhena has hampered vehicular movement along the Hatton - Colombo A7 main road.

A mound of earth collapsed in the 32nd mile post along the Bibila - Lunugala road Thursday (07) night, disrupting vehicular movement.

Police said the Akurana town area along the Kandy-Jaffna main road was also flooded on Thursday (07) night.

However, Police said the water levels have now receded.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicted showers or thundershowers at several places over most provinces of the island after 1.00 p.m on Friday (08). 

The Department predicted fairly heavy showers above 75mm in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Kurunegala districts.

The Met. Department predicted several spells of showers in the Eastern province during the morning as well.
