Suspicious parcel found in airplane’s lavatory causes panic at BIA.
A Indian Airways flight bound for Chennai from Katunayake Airport, was briefly suspended due to the discovery of a suspicious black parcel in the aircraft’s lavatory on Friday(10)
Upon investigation by the airport security personnel, the aircraft had to abort its takeoff scheduled at 1:35 pm and return to the airport at 1:40 pm.
The safety protocol involved evacuating passengers and moving the plane to an isolated location for inspection by the bomb disposal unit.
After examination, the bomb disposal unit confirmed that the parcel, originally suspected to be a potential threat, was in fact a two-kilogram gold package. The gold parcel was handed over to airport customs officials for further inquiry.
Authorities have revealed that the gold was concealed within the parcel in a cream form. No arrests have been made in connection with the ownership of the gold.
Following the inspection and necessary procedures, Flight AI 272 departed for Chennai at 4:43 pm.
