Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka notched up an impressive 72 runs in the first ten overs of an ODI innings, setting a new record for the highest score by a non-opener.
His achievement surpasses the previous records of 55 runs by Kumar Sangakkara against South Africa in 2002 and 51 runs by Brian Lara against Canada in 2003.
