Over 60 kg of endemic fish detained at airport
The Customs Department has seized over 60 kg of Coral Hind aka Thabuwa, a type of fish which is endemic to Sri Lanka, at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
The Department said the stock of fish was seized while it was to be exported to the United Kingdom.
A statement has been recorded from the owner of the company in charge of exporting the stock of fish.
Sri Lanka Customs said the goods have been taken into State custody, while a fine will be imposed on the exporting company following the completion of the investigations into the incident.
A special Gazette has been issued under the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act banning the capture, sale, transport, and possession of Coral Hind in Sri Lanka.
