Dengue on the rise, again.

Dengue on the rise, again.

The Health Entomology Officers' Association warns that the breeding of Dengue mosquitoes is significantly increasing due to the heavy showers.

Its Chairman Najith Sumanasena says that the Breteau Index, which had dropped due to the arid weather, has now increased.

Breteau index (BI) is calculated as the number of containers with any larvae or pupae, divided by the total number of inspected households, multiplied by 100.

He warns that the number of Dengue cases reported will increase soon as well.

The National Dengue Control Unit says that 2,500 dengue cases were reported so far this month.
