The Homicide & Organized Crimes Division of Sri Lanka Police arrested three people for assaulting a Prison Guard attached to the Galle Prison.

Earlier, two other suspects were also arrested for assaulting a Prison Guard attached to the Galle Prison, on the 5th of August 2023.

Sri Lanka Police said a three-wheeler, and a motorcycle used to commit the crime were seized from the possession of the suspects, aged 19 to 30, who were arrested on Sunday (13).

Sri Lanka's Department of Prisons said the assault was carried out by a criminal gang linked to organized crime.

Prisons Commissioner and Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake told News 1st that a group of 10 men had carried out the brutal assault on the 43-year-old Prison Guard, who was heading home in a bus after clocking out of work.

He said an armed gang wearing face covers had boarded the moving bus, and carried out the brutal attack on the Prison Guard.
