Water Crisis: Supply ensured in Anuradhapura District.
Minister of Irrigation Roshan Ranasinghe says that the risks that existed regarding the supply of water for paddy cultivation in the Anuradhapura district has reduced.
Minister Ranasinghe says that the crucial Kala Wewa and Kandalama Wewa are currently in a position to provide the necessary water required for paddy cultivation.
He added that the water capacity of the Kothmale Reservoir stands at 61%, while the capacity of the Parakrama Samudra Reservoir is at 50% capacity. Meanwhile, the Kala Wewa currently holds 20% of its capacity.
However, the minister also pointed out a shift in hydropower production capabilities. The contribution that can be harnessed for hydropower has decreased to 25 percent.
