Shortage of vital medicine for Kidney Transplants.
Surgeries at the National Institute for Nephrology Dialysis & Transplantation in Maligawatte are likely to be delayed due to a medicine shortage.
In addition, it is reported that a crisis has arisen over the payment of Rs. 338 million for electricity by the National Hospital in Colombo.
An inquiry carried out by News 1st revealed that a vital medication used at the National Institute for Nephrology Dialysis & Transplantation in Maligawatte for surgeries, identified as Basiliximab and its alternative are not available.
It is reported that the Medical Supplies Division was informed repeatedly of the shortage, however, no stocks of the medicine were provided.
In this backdrop, there is a risk of surgeries at the National Institute for Nephrology Dialysis & Transplantation being suspended.
An inquiry made by News 1st revealed that the Colombo National Hospital is to settle a payment of Rs. 338 million, and no payment has been made for electricity in five months.
The Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board noted that he was not informed of such a situation, and stressed that the electricity supply to hospitals would not be suspended.
