Auditor General's special investigation on substandard medicines.

Auditor General's special investigation on substandard medicines.

The Auditor General's Department has initiated a special investigation into the use of substandard medicines.

Auditor General W.P.C.  Wickramaratne revealed that previous investigations on the National Medicines Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Health uncovered significant information about the use of substandard and unregistered drugs, which was also discussed in the Parliamentary Committee on Public Business.

Reports of substandard drug usage from various areas prompted the decision to launch this special investigation.

Additionally, a separate investigation on the computer system related to the purchase and distribution of medicines is in its final stages.

The Auditor General expects to submit the report to Parliament in this regard, promptly.
