Prednisolone eye drops from India to be blacklisted in Sri Lanka.
Steps will be taken to blacklist 'Prednisolone', an eye drop that is used following eye surgery, in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday (May 20).
Earlier, the Health Ministry informed all hospital directors to suspend the use of Prednisolone Eye Drops imported from India with immediate effect, after several complications were reported.
Laboratory tests conducted in Sri Lanka have confirmed that this Eye Drop is contaminated, Dr. Saman Ratnayake, Additional Secretary at the Health Ministry, told News 1st.
It has been decided not to make the payments related to the relevant drug consignments, he noted.
According to Dr. Saman Ratnayake, eye surgeries have resumed with the use of a medicine imported from Myanmar instead of the Prednisolone Eye Drops imported from India.
