Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says that the heat index, which measures the heat felt by the human body, is currently at a level that requires vigilance in some places of the Northern, North Central, North Western, and Eastern provinces.
Issuing an advisory about the hot weather conditions, the department added that the heat index in Monaragala and Hambantota districts was also at high levels.
The Department of Meteorology added that those residing in the relevant areas are advised to stay hydrated and remain in the shade as much as possible.
Meanwhile, the Met Dept further advised residents in the areas to wear white or light-colored clothing and to limit outdoor activities.
