Vegetables prices increase as demand outnumber supply
Prices of vegetables in economic centers have increased due to the shortage of fertilizers and agrochemicals.
Traders at the Dambulla and Keppetipola Economic Centers said that with the shortage of fertilizers and agrochemicals, the supply of vegetables to the economic centers has decreased significantly due to farmers moving away from cultivation.
As a result there is a significant reduction in the supply of vegetables to the economic centers.
He also said that a large portion of the vegetables coming to the economic centers have been spoiled due to the lack of agrochemicals.
Meanwhile the Hiru news team received a report from Rambukkana - Walagoda area about a farmer who produced an insecticide using organic matter.
Also, some farmers have started cultivating using the organic fertilizer provided by the government.
