The World Bank says more than US$ 2 billion will be needed in the next 10 years to halve road accidents in Sri Lanka.
It shows that if not, it will adversely affect the economic growth of the country.
According to the World Bank, about 38,000 road accidents occur in Sri Lanka annually.
More than 3,000 people were killed and more than 8,000 were injured.
The World Bank points out that Sri Lanka has one of the highest road deaths in South Asia in terms of population.
It is also stated that the fatal road accident rate in Sri Lanka is about five times higher than in developed countries.
