Nurses overworked - current cadre is only 50% of the requirement
The Public Service United Nurses Association states that at present the entire nursing staff is under extreme pressure and fatigue due to overworking themselves.
Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (03) the Assistant Secretary of the Association Pushpa Ramyani de Zoysa stated that this situation has arisen since they have a limited number of nurses.
At present, the total number of nursing staff is about 38,000, which is about double the current service requirement, she said.
