No arrest, Harin gets relief in SC
Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Harin Fernando will not be arrested over the Easter attacks investigations, the Supreme Court was informed today.
The Attorney General’s department assured the Court that the MP will not be arrested in connection to the Easter attacks investigations until the next court hearing date, which has been set for 14th July.
President’s Counsel Romesh De Silva assisted by lawyers Panduka Keerthinanda, Sanath Wijewardena and Niran Anketell appeared on behalf of MP Harin Fernando, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital for a heart ailment.
Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, Senior Additional Solicitor General Priyantha Nawana had informed the Supreme Court bench that MP Fernando will not be apprehended in relation to the incident until the next court hearing.
The case was taken up today before the bench comprising of Justices S. Thurairaja, Kumuduni Wickremasinghe and Mahinda Samayawardhena.
MP Fernando is being investigated after the CID said his initial statement made on the attacks and later testimony given to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the attacks were contradictory.
The Opposition has accused the Government of attempting to arrest MP Harin Fernando over his critical remarks on the Easter attacks investigations in Parliament.
