
New Constitution needed to take country forward - Malwatte and Asgiriya Lekakadhikaris
Lekakadhikaris of Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters yesterday said a new Constitution that suits the country is the need of the hour to take the country forward.
They said a dialogue has been built up for the 20th Amendment to the Constitution in the country which will pave the way to bring a more prudent Amendment to the Constitution.
“The country’s Constitution is the basic law that directs and regulates the manner in which Government is exercised. It has an impact on each and every citizen,” the Lekakadhikaris of Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters said.
The Lekakadhikaris of both Chapters said that special focus should be laid on the people and the country at large, if any Amendment is brought to the Constitution.
Lekakadhikari of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Medagama Dhammananda Thera said the Government should give an ear to the recommendations of the Committee appointed by the Prime Minister, the opinions of the Maha Sangha and the people.
Lekakadhikari of the Malwatte Chapter Most Ven.Pahamune Sumangala Thera said a new Constitution should be drafted with great care with a futuristic vision.“Such a Constitution will help develop the people and the country at large,” the Thera said.
