Over 10,600 vehicles have been newly registered within the first three months of 2021.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Sumith Alahakoon said a total of 10,661 vehicles were newly registered during this period.

He said 3350 vehicles were registered in January, 3661 vehicles in February, and 3650 vehicles in March 2021.

Alahakoon said the highest number of vehicles to be registered were motorcycles, which consisted of 3525 motorcycles.

The remaining were 1756 tractors, 1309 cars, 1534 dual purpose vehicles, and 42 three-wheelers.

The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic further said nearly 196,937 vehicle ownership transfers took place during this period.

He said 49,629 ownership transfers were reported in January 2021, while 63, 523 transfers were reported in February, and 83, 785 were reported in March.

Sumith Alahakoon said the highest number of transfers were of three-wheeler, which consisted of 54,884, while transfers of 53, 978 motorcycles and 44,980cars were also registered during this period
