TID arrests four suspects - Two for spreading extremist ideologies

Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stated that two suspects were arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) in Colombo.

The two suspects were identified as a 31-year-old resident of Wellampitiya and a 32-year-old resident of Thihariya.

The duo was arrested for TID for spreading Zaharan Hashim's ideologies over the internet by maintaining and operating a WhatsApp group.

The two suspects had left the country for Qatar for employment, however, following the notification from Sri Lanka, the duo was deported from the country on 21 November.

It was also revealed that the video and the image of Zahran Hashim that released following the Easter Sunday terror attacks were uploaded to the internet by one of the arrested suspects.

The arrested will be detained and questioned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

The Police Media Spokesperson further stated that another two persons were arrested by the TID in Muttur.

The suspects were identified to be a 37-year-old and a 38-year-old.

The duo were arrested for facilitating the conduction of classes that spread extremist ideologies in 2018.

They will also be detained and questioned under the PTA
