Investigation islandwide for coconut oil containing carcinogens
The Consumer Affairs Authority stated that samples which were taken from the coconut oil stock which allegedly contain carcinogenic chemicals are being further tested.
A senior official with the CAA added that random inspections of shops islandwide were also continuing.
He also stated that samples of the two major companies that imported the relevant coconut oil yesterday were taken for testing.
It was reported that 8,000 tonnes of imported unrefined coconut oil were released from Colombo Port last night. That is in the background where it was revealed that 13 containers in the stock contained coconut oil with carcinogenic chemicals.
