Coconut oil with carcinogens distributed across the island
Prior to the festive season, traditional coconut oil producers in the country are requesting the government to inspect and reveal whether imported unrefined coconut oil and palm oil which are in the custody of the Customs are suitable for human consumption.
Buddhika de Silva, the General Convener of the All Ceylon Traditional Coconut Oil Producers' Association, addressing a media briefing held in Dambulla today, said that carcinogens were identified in coconut oil that contained in 13 containers that are in Custom's custody.
However, he stated that when the relevant reports were received, the stocks of coconut oil had been distributed throughout the country
